The Science of Emotions Workshops (Science 4 Friends)

Led by Alison Fulop, for the Kate Woodcock Research Group, Centre for Applied Psychology, University of Birmingham. This programme is supported by BBC Children in Need and the Wellcome Trust as a part of the Curiosity Project, an initiative to develop informal science learning with young people in the UK.

What?

In collaboration with All Saints Youth Project, we are running interactive workshops to allow young people to explore the science behind emotions. The workshops will explore questions such as:

  • What is the difference between a genuine and a fake smile?
  • Does standing in a superhero pose make you feel more confident?
  • Which part of the brain makes you sad?
  • Which emotions make you more likely to make a risky decision?
  • Who can take part?

We are looking for young people aged 11-17 that are:

  • Able to attend 8 weekly workshops at All Saints Youth Project in Kings Heath
  • Interested in exploring the science behind emotions
  • Excited about developing teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking skills
  • How?
